Built on the River Clyde by John Brown & Co of Clydebank in 1952 and launched in April 1953, it was decommissioned in December 1997 having travelled 1,087,623 nautical miles on 696 foreign and 272 British Royal visits, and private cruises for members of the family, such as the queen’s favourite cruises of the Scottish western isles.
